Painters have always been interested not only
in how the world physically looks but also in the many ways
that different individuals see it — symbolically, emotionally,
and psychologically. In this series of compelling and
unsettling urban streetscapes, Jay Brockman demonstrates that
interest, depicting familiar Hollywood neighborhoods, viewed,
ironically, as they most often are by the city's residents: at
night from a passing car. Executed with wit and skill, they
are, in their way, more LA than LA. (SND)
NOTE: The exhibition is a special two-day event. Following the
artist's reception on Sat 11.2, the gallery is open Sun 11.2
(11am-7pm).
