Gallery Domingo presents “Hollywood and Sunset,” a two-day showcase of new
streetscape paintings by Jay Brockman.

On November 1st and 2nd, Hollywood’s Gallery Domingo will present Hollywood and Sunset,
a two-day showcase of Jay Brockman’s new streetscape paintings at the Robert Rootenberg
Gallery located at 7918 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.  The artist’s reception will
be held on Saturday, November 1st from 7pm to 10pm and the gallery will be open on Sunday,
November 2nd from 11am to 7pm.

“Jay Brockman’s work lies within the great tradition of landscape painting,” comments Andy
Moses, a contemporary Los Angeles artist. “He does however, give it a decidedly 21st century
twist with it’s contemporary urban LA landscape viewed from a car, which is how one views
landscapes in LA.  Jay’s work captures a particular feel of LA the way Hockney or Ruscha does.”

Jay Brockman’s streetscapes are reminiscent of Ed Ruscha's early Hollywood series with orange
skies and contrasting landscapes but deviate with a unique use of perspective as viewed by a
traveling motorist. From afar, the paintings offer a photographic quality which upon closer
examination is cleverly contrasted by concise and gestural brushstrokes. Balancing between
realist and painterly, Brockman creates the illusion of space by providing subtle and effective
indicators of what the viewer expects to see in the depths of the familiar streetscapes.

April Watson, art critic of Socal.com, reviewed Brockman's work in August 2003 and wrote,
“Jay’s current series of silhouetted Hollywood landscapes, stark and complex against beautiful
sunset skies, will appeal to all who have a love and passion for Los Angeles. These acrylic works
on canvas seem to be executed with affection and respect. They are steeped in the flavor of
old Hollywood."

Gallery Domingo builds relationships with artists and their potential collectors using non-
traditional avenues through which to present and promote contemporary art.  For more
