Gallery Domingo is selling contemporary art at the Melrose Trading Post every
first and third Sunday of the month. Due to the Labor Day Holiday, the next
exhibition will be September 7th, instead of the first weekend. Gallerydomingo.com features an online calendar and gallery which is updated
weekly with artist information and exhibition dates. Jay Brockman’s detailed
Hollywood streetscapes are contrasted by Paige Wery’s anti-establishment impasto
paintings during the one-day exhibit in Gallery Domingo. Brockman’s work is
shown in Gallery Domingo on a consistent basis. Hollywood artists Paige Wery,
Jason Macaya and J.S. Carson have all exhibited their work in Gallery Domingo.
Carl Raymond Schmidt, a former local artist living in Chicago, utilized the
venue for a solo show and installation this summer. Most of the artwork on
display is typically available for purchase, and collectors are tapping into
this new resource for local contemporary art. Kim Leerdam is the founder and
curator of Gallery Domingo. She also serves as an art rep for these artists,
along with a few others. Leerdam is an active new member of the Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce.
The Melrose Trading Post, located on the corner of Melrose and
Fairfax, is open every Sunday. The number of artists exhibiting their work at
the Trading Post is steadily increasing. Vendors are encouraged to carry
one-of-a-kind items. The entry fee is $2, which is used to benefit Fairfax High
School. Gallery Domingo’s hours are from 10am to 5pm.
